Why adagents.json is more expressive than ads.txt

ads.txt made supply-chain transparency possible, but it was built for a flatter world. adagents.json can describe the actual commercial shape of modern media: direct paths, delegated paths, placements, collections, countries, time windows, and governed inventory groupings.

Agentic Advertising is for Allocation

Programmatic advertising emerged to solve a specific challenge: determining which ad network would pay the most for a given impression. Yet premium publishers and brand advertisers face fundamentally different questions—ones more aligned with capacity-constrained markets like hotels or airlines. OpenAI Details How ChatGPT’s LLM Ad Stack Selects And Serves Ads

OpenAI detailed how ChatGPT Ads works: a dedicated 'orchestrator' language model, separate from answer generation, turns conversation context into embedding-based queries, finds and vets candidate ads, and passes them to a distinct auction tool for ranking and pricing. Post-auction relevance and latency checks mean a winning ad may never be shown. OpenAI cites a $1B annualized run rate and 100,000+ advertisers but provides no advertiser ROI benchmarks or reporting-visibility details.

Pichai Says AI Agents Will Click Through Pages And Use Protocols

Google CEO Sundar Pichai told the Sources podcast that AI agents will reach websites in two ways: browsing pages like humans do and using purpose-built agent protocols. He expects protocols (MCP, payment protocols, Google-backed UCP) to scale better but take longer to mature, with a 'chaotic evolution' toward interoperable standards. Asked how Google protects its ads business when agents do the browsing, Pichai said to 'put users first' and didn't explain how ads would work in agent-mediated sessions.

Why CNN International is building for agentic ad market that barely exists yet

CNN International is still on track to launch agent-led ad sales in Q1 2027, building in-house agentic infrastructure alongside third-party tech and DSP partners. Faisal Karmali says unresolved issues like competing standards (with overlap on 13 functions), agent authorization, anti-gaming guardrails, and accurate inventory description for LLMs remain the real obstacles, and agent-led deals could be anywhere from 5% to 50% of its ad business.

Zuckerberg said 10M+ people in the US and Canada have set up Muse personal agents, mostly used for shopping, and that Meta plans to charge businesses a fee on transactions Muse helps facilitate, alongside an open Personal Agent Protocol being developed with partners like Stripe, Shopify, Walmart and Sierra.

OpenAI to rewrite ChatGPT ads by default as advertisers get days to opt out

OpenAI told advertisers it will enable "creative enhancements" by default for new and existing self-serve ChatGPT ad campaigns around October 29-30, 2026. The system can rewrite headlines and descriptions, translate text, resize images, and change destination URLs, and these versions can run without per-version advertiser approval. Advertisers can opt out at the account or campaign level in Ads Manager, but there is no per-enhancement-type control and no reporting that separates enhanced versions from original creative.
